Saluting eight men in horseracing

Share

Eight men involved in the Horse Racing Sport were the reason for the celebration at the Ellis Thomas Downs in Sea Cow’s bay on Sunday 13th November 2016.

Seated at the high table, decked out in their Sunday’s best, they sat underneath a white tent, facing their families and friends also seated at tables of white with red and gold décor.

A short distance away was the Disk Jockey who said he is old but not cold, firing tunes of country and jazz. The weather was cool and the food and drink flow freely.

Following the hearty lunch of dinner rolls with butter, pumpkin soup, garden salad, Caribbean coleslaw, baked chicken, stew mutton, baked grouper in coconut cream sauce, peas and rice, scalloped potatoes steamed vegetables, fried plantain and cake for dessert, the awards segment went underway.

One by one the citations were read and the men came up to collect their wooden scroll like awards with a bronze plate bearing the names: Kelvin “Gushie” Thomas, Roy L. “Yellow” Garraway, Ashley “Feather” Warner, and Derrick “Aruba” Marshal from the Punchenella group from Huntums Ghut, Paul “On the Ball” Hewlet and Karl “Dub” Scatliffe, who are well known Horse Racing Commentators, as well as horse owners from Huntums Ghut- Immanuel Hodge and Ifield Hodge.

These eight men have contributed positively for a number of years towards the development of the Horse Racing sport throughout the years.

Karl Scatliffe was the only honoree not present.

Premier Dr. The Hon D. Orlando Smith, Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn, Leader of the Opposition Hon Julian Fraser and President of the VI Horse Owners Association (VIHOA), Mrs. Patsy C. Lake, offered congratulatory messages to the honorees.
