Is the heat getting you down ? These tips will help you keep your cool
- Drink plenty of Water…
We all know that we need to drink plenty of water. As it gets hotter we need to drink more. The CDC explains, ‘Whenever your body heats up, your internal air conditioner turns on and you begin to sweat. And remember, now that your air conditioner is using its coolant (your sweat), it is important to refill your tank – by drinking lots of H2O’.
- Keep excessive sweat away…
Sweating is our body’s natural way of cooling down, however, if you suffer from excessive sweating a few tricks will help you to keep it under control. Try applying antiperspirant at night and always make sure you wear breathable materials such as cotton.
- Optimize your windows…
If you are running your AC you want to make sure that all your windows and doors are closing properly. During the day use black out curtains on the windows that get the sun to keep the heat out. No AC – hang a damp towel across the window to cool the air down coming through.
- Know your cooling points…
By applying ice cubes wrapped in towels or cold cloths to the wrists and neck your body will start to cool quicker. Even just running your wrists under the cold tap will cool down you fast.
- Sleep like an Egyptian…
The Egyptian method involves dampening a sheet or towel and using it as a blanket, or a damp facecloth across your forehead, neck or wrists will help too.
- Cool breeze…
Create a cooling breeze using your fan and a bowl of ice or even a large block of ice. Place in front of your fan, the breeze will pick up the cool water as the ice melts and blow out a cooling mist.
- Stay away from the stove…
Hot days and nights, you don’t want to be cooking over a hot stove. Get outside and BBQ, get the family eating healthier with salads. Or even better, get taken out to dinner and let someone else do the cooking!
- Spritz…
Fill a spray bottle with water and keep in the refrigerator at home or at work. Feeling a bit hot, a quick spray across your face will leave you feeling cooler and refreshed.
- Cool your skin…
Replace our usual moisturizer with Aloe Vera gel or lotion. Keep it in the fridge for an even cooler feel.
- Don’t do anything…
No, seriously, don’t do anything. Stop, find a cool spot, sit down and relax. #takeamoment
