For the first time in its 42-year history, the Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant left the shores of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, West Indies, making its way to the British Virgin Islands (BVI) from December 26-30, 2024.
Under the theme “Celebrating the Excellence and Supremacy of the Caribbean Sheroes,” the prestigious event was hosted by the Miss Teen British Virgin Islands Committee, chaired by Mr. Rupert Vanterpool, Jr. This landmark 42nd installment of the pageant brought together 13 dynamic young women, along with their supporters and fans from across the Caribbean, including the reigning Miss Caribbean Teen 2023, Ms. St. Kitts and Nevis, Takyla Hart-Johnson.
The pageant highlighted the rich diversity and talent of young women across the Caribbean while showcasing the Virgin Islands as a hub for culture and entertainment within the region. Throughout the week, the participants were treated to an experience that was not only educational and enjoyable but meaningful as well.
Mr. Vanterpool expressed his excitement at the significance of hosting such a milestone event in the Territory, noting its impact on the BVI’s tourism product. “We are extremely proud and excited to host the Haynes Smith Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant in the Virgin Islands for the first time. This event represents a unique opportunity to shine a spotlight on the BVI and its ability to host world-class cultural events.”
The weekend of activities culminated in the grand finale on December 29, 2024, at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Road Town, Tortola. The venue was transformed into an elegant space that captured the spirit of the holiday season, offering a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening.
Talent was on full display as the contestants took the stage for the first segment of the show. Audience members were thoroughly entertained as each young lady showcased a wide range of talents. SherNiah Freeman of St. John, wowed the crowd with her versatile tap dancing and baton twirling performance. Meanwhile, British Virgin Islands’ own Asha Hyndman, entered the stage on stilts, performing an explosive Virgin Islands Moko Jumbie dance routine that left the audience in awe. Kaitlyn Wilson of St. Kitts, delivered a jaw-dropping aerial dance routine, earning her the coveted Best Talent title.
The evening also featured a Theatrical Appearance & Shero Costume segment, where the contestants embodied the powerful image of Caribbean Sheroes. In true spirit of unity and regional togetherness, the contestants came together for a celebratory dance, highlighting the sisterhood bond formed during their time together.
BVI’s own talent was also on display, with local musicians, vocal artists, and dancers providing vibrant entertainment throughout the event.
Once the judges’ decisions were tabulated, the evening culminated with the crowning of the new Miss Caribbean Teen 2024. Co-Host for the evening Bria Smith and Eusa Adams requested The Premier of the British Virgin Islands, Dr. The Honourable Natalio Wheatley, be escorted to the stage to present the crown to the new queen, accompanied by the reigning Miss Caribbean Teen, Takyla Hart-Johnson, and 2024 Miss British Virgin Islands, Adacia Adonis.
